Waiheke Cinema - IF

Waiheke Cinema - IF

“IF is John Krasinski’s venture into family-friendly territory. The film is expressly for all the “girl dads” out there. It’s less for kids and more for adults who want something more mature than Minions but still suitable for children. The story follows Bea (Cailey Fleming), who develops the ability to see people’s imaginary friends (IFs). She gets involved in an adventure with the cynical IF whisperer Calvin (Ryan Reynolds).

The film balances whimsy with heart, capturing the magic of childhood imagination. Krasinski’s direction infuses every frame with wonder, from the sun-dappled forests to the bustling streets where IFs hide in plain sight. The visual effects team brings the imaginary friends to life with each one being unique, quirky, and endearing. Bea’s IF, a mischievous dragon named Nimbus, steals every scene with its playful antics and cryptic riddles.

The heart of the film lies in the unlikely friendship between Bea and Calvin. Fleming’s portrayal of Bea is earnest and relatable as a young girl navigating the complexities of growing up, while grappling with her newfound gift. Reynolds, known for his wit and charm, delivers a delightful performance as Calvin, a jaded IF whisperer who has seen it all. Their banter is equal parts hilarious and heartwarming, as they unravel the mysteries of the IF world together.”
